Winter Field Day is sponsored by the Winter Field Day Association. We passionately believe that Ham radio operators should practice portable emergency communications in winter environments as the potential for freezing temperatures, snow, ice, and other hazards present unique operational concerns. WFD is formatted to help increase your level of preparedness for disasters and improve your operational skills in subpar conditions.
The EARS club will be returning to Bayland Park to participate in the annual event. We encourage our members and neighbors to come out and join us. No matter your license class or experience level, you can come and operate using the club call sign. This is an opportunity for new hams to gain experience operating with guidance from your fellow hams. You can come by and operate for a few hours, or camp with us overnight. We hope you will join us for a great time practicing emergency radio operation, having some delicious food, and enjoying the company of your fellow hams.
We will have stations set up and ready to operate. You do not need to bring a station but if you would like to bring a radio to operate we can accommodate you.
Talk-in will be on the 145.310 MHz repeater to provide directions to the park
WFD hours are 1pm CST Saturday January 28th to 12:59pm CST Sunday January 29th. We will be setting up early on Saturday morning. If you would like to come out to help set up prior to the event please feel free. Also we could use help after the event with take down and clean up.

Winter Field Day is a communications exercise. WFD is held on the last full weekend in January. WFD can be worked from the comfort of your home or in a remote location. You can participate by yourself or get your friends, family, or whole club involved. Winter Field Day is open to participants worldwide. Amateur radio operators may use frequencies on the HF, VHF, or UHF bands and are free to use any mode that can faithfully transmit the required exchange intact. Similar to the ARRL’s Field Day, bonus points are earned in several ways, including using non-commercial power sources, operating from remote locations, satellite contacts, and more.
MOBILE AND FIXED STATIONS: For the benefit of all participants, announce your planned activity now. Please send your operating plan to NO5W so that he can post your planned activity to the ROUTES webpage. See below for detail.
Here is an opportunity for code practice for the upcoming Texas QSO Party using MorseRunner and RufzXP.

2022 TQP IS ALMOST HERE
Time to make sure the mobile is ready for the road and to plan your route! As in the past, prepare your ROUTE in the form of a list of the counties you plan to visit and the day you will be there. It is important to include your operating mode (CWOnly, SSBOnly, MIXed). Route plans need not be detailed - all Chuck NO5W needs is a text file listing the operating mode with the counties you plan to be in and in the order you will pass through them if that is more convenient. The listings do not need crossing times, and in fact, these slow processing to strip them out.
If you are operating both days, there should be two lists, one list for each day. You can list the counties in an email if that is more convenient. If you are not operating as a rover, send Chuck an email with the county you will operate from and your call.
These are examples of the suggested (not required) formats for submissions.
Mobile operators:
NO5W/m(SAT-MIX)=Burnet,Llano,SanSaba,Lampasas,Mills,Hamilton
NO5W/m(SUN-MIX)=Brazoria,Matagorda,Jackson,Calhoun
Fixed operators:
K5OT(SAT-CWO)=Williamson
K5OT(SUN-CWO)=Williamson
Send the lists to routes@txqp.net. Click on the link, attach your list or lists, type a brief note to Chuck if you like, then click send. Simple and quick. Check back here in a few days to verify that your route has been received. To do so, visit 2022 Routes to verify that your route has been received.
If you have additional information such as a schedule of times when you expect to be in each county please do not include it in your lists. Send them to no5w.chuck@gmail.com as a separate document. This will be included as additional information on the routes page.
Please send your routes as EARLY as possible. Chuck needs time to process the lists, as well as prepare for the contest.
NOTE: Routes received during the final week before the contest (September 12 to September 17) may not get posted before the contest starts. This does not mean you cannot participate or affect your score. See below.
IMPORTANT: you do not have to submit a route in order to participate. Having your route listed is a service to help you make more contacts but is NOT a requirement to enter the contest. To participate in the contest, you must:
There are no fees or entry forms. Just get on the air and have a good time!
